ASHUTOSH SRIVASTAVA

34 comments:

  1. A loyal G-winger:) Has been responsible to take care of our taste buds for these two years. Fondly called as MALIK. Sincere and responsible guy. Not a night owl contrary to a normal B-Schooler. An awesome person and a good friend.

  2. "Maalik" means boss, but the word can also be used to refer to god. Given that he was the king of our mess kitchen here at IIM-S, no wonder that he attained a supreme status among us all.

Ashutosh, or Maalik as his is so fondly called, is one of those rare people who dared to defy the kind of culture that "Life in a B-School" generally stands for - you won't ever find him indulging in competitions, or studying like a man possessed, or indulging in any of the stuffs that an MBA grad is expected to do. Hell, he doesn't even sleep late.

Having been his neighbour for two years I can vouch for the fact that he is indeed a rarity and a gem of a person. Someone meeting him for the first time might feel he's a very quiet person, but anyone who knows him will tell you that he loves having fun, cracking jokes and having a good time. He has considerable knowledge about his field, yet he's a very unassuming & down-to-earth guy. And yes, would every doubt his sense of responsibility.

Having been neighbours during our 2-year stint here, I'm now looking forward to us being colleagues at workplace too :)

  3. "Ashu" as I call him, is a friend of both dry and wet times:)

He knows how to tackle a person. You can't win if you are arguing against him. And he won't even let you realize that he is opposing you. Very practical, very sensible and very responsible person. You can take it granted that he can't break anyone's heart. That's why he is so much busy on the phone now a days:)

Have not seen tension layers on his forehead. Extremely cool personality. And an extremely warm friend!!!

  4. Maalik as he is commonly known is probably the most ‘happy go lucky’ person one could find in campus. Group D mate I would still remember how he used to say ‘Bhai Mail check kar lena’ to remind me of the group activities. He is sure to make a mark in whatever he does.

  5. “Sabka Maalik ek”, to which the prompt reply comes as “sabka naukar ek”, that is true to an extent as he is the one who almost single handedly managed the most challenging tasks here, the Hostel Committee. With all respect to other committee members, I can say with confidence that it was our Maalik coz of which we got food (the basic necessity of life) for the period we stayed here. Others can call you ‘Maalik’ to make fun of you, but it’s always respect in my heart for you when I utter your nickname, your identity here. He is THE Go-To man of not just me, but many others here at Shillong. You go with any problem to him and he has a solution tailor-made for you. For me, he is like an elder brother who scolded me at my mistakes, taking care that I don’t repeat them again. His life is an inspiration to me & many others who have always lived a secure & comfortable life so far. His one statement that “one should never forget his/her bad days” itself is a life’s learning, if properly understood & implemented. Thank you MAALIK for all what you have done for me. It can’t be expressed in any number of words.

  6. Maaaaa-lik :), a very down to earth, caring, simple, responsible, calm, ready with solution, understanding, savior, mentor, helping, fun-loving person. He is a person who can read my mind and understands me more than I can understand myself. He can figure out from my face if I am sad and without making me realize he would do something or the other to make me happy. I have to never give a second thought before speaking anything in front of Maalik. He never gets angry or irritated . Don’t know what is he made up of. Whenever he is around, you would see everyone in good mood. He can never see anyone sad. Sabke maalik hai. You can approach him for any personal or professional problem, he will definitely solve it. You can speak your heart out in front of maalik, he would listen it patiently and make you really feel happy. I am really lucky to meet such a wonderful person in my life. He is the one who saves me from all the pranks, teasing, etc. I have learnt a lot from him in both personal and professional life. Love to listen his stories, ways of life, philosophical thinking and much more. He can make complicated things so simple. He is a very intelligent and modest person with very good analytical skills. He does everything with full dedication. He is a true gem. A person who would help anyone without expecting anything in return. Moments spent with maalik both in Shillong and Gurgaon have been awesome. No words to describe them. Whenever I have any doubt be it studies or personal life, maalik has always been there. I have never seen such a person who helps everyone selflessly. There is so much about maalik that I can write a book about it. He is a great person. A person whom you can trust for each and everything. Thanks maalik for GDPI, stats, TT, walks, life lessons and everything… Maalik hai to sab matiyaa jayega and tension naako rahegi. I am thankful to him for being there always for me and understanding me during times when I am not able to understand myself. I wish you all the best and wish you achieve the zenith of glory.

  7. People have already said enough about "Maalik", about how good a person he is and how he inspires almost every other person around himself. Undoubtedly he is all that and much more. I have never come across a person who is so humble and down-to-earth despite his amazing skills and perfection in everything he does. The way he consoles you when you break down and again motivates you to rise up and walk with your head high is truly commendable. A Hostelcomm member with the eagerness to experiment, it is because of him that we get something different and mostly tasty to eat in the mess :) He stays in the mess throughout during the meals whenever a new dish is being served, just to get a feed back on how people have liked it. So much of dedication is rarely to be seen. I consider myself lucky to have come across a person like him. He is the one who has done complete justice to his name "Maalik". Maalik aapko salaam!!

  8. Perseverance..patience…resilience.. are the words that would define him.. Certainly a person who was cursed the most whenever something went wrong with the mess food (owing to his proximity to the mess :P).. But whatever be the case, he has never lost his cool, no matter how bad things went.. Being in the same committee as him, I definitely got to learn a lot from him.
Wish you all the best in future and just be as cool as you are!!

  9. When I think of Ashu, first word that strikes me is "down to earth". You cannot help but respect him. Quite senior to me, being in Group D, I ve learnt alot from him. Never does he loses his cool. Any task however big or diffcult, he makes you feel its the easiest of things to do. You cant help but notice his perseverance.

  10. One of the most mature guys of the batch. Had the opportunity to work with him in Hostel Committee, and frankly speaking, have learnt a lot from this champ. Ever helpful, ever calm, he knows exactly what he is doing. A great and humble guy, he doesn't believe in the fb era.
    Keep Rocking Ashu bhai!!

  11. Ashutosh aka Mallik has been a composed, down to Earth, helpful and responsible. Cool headed and a committed Hostel Comm member. He has been woken up numerous times too early in the morning or late in night by the frantic calls from people complaining about lack of water in hostels. His day wouldn’t have ended without listening to a complaint about the food, shortage of TT and badminton racquets. But his selfless nature and a skill of getting mess workers and other support staff do their jobs properly is hard to find in others.
Other than being a caring friend he is seen as a pillar of strength by many. His uniqueness is the fact that many a monicker given to the batchmates have come to existence due to him. (Mallik I still dunno the origin of many of those :()
He is sure to find success and happiness in life! Good wishes !

  12. “Hain aur bhi duniya mein sukhAnwar bahut achhe”
“kehte hain ki ‘MAALIK’ ka hai andaaz-e-bayaaN aur”

These lines from “Mirza Ghalib” aptly describes our “Tanu Malik’s” personality. An exceptional human being with great passion for music, sleeping, Gurgaon and “……….”. I got to see his completely different side in Gurgaon. Getting up at 5 in the morning, jogging, office, and post dinner walks which extended till 1 or 2 in the morning (quite contrary to his IIMS image). We have spent some really good time together. Be it doing competitions, internship period, IIT Madras trip or listening to your experiences of life. I would always miss them.

Maalik, I wish you all the best in life and yaa……”Hame apni shaadi me JALOOOOOL bulana” (Maafi..)

  13. *total respect*
I remember how I called you 'Maalik' once and you requested me so innocently to not call you by that name :P But all of us would always remember you by this name only :) May God bless you all the happiness in the world. Bahut punya kamaye hain aapne by feeding hungry souls here :)
Keep smiling humesha :) Miss me :P

  14. A lot has been already said about him by people, I would like to add 1 thing: he is a 'wall,' for the group and for the hostel committee. Full of experience and practical things, he has a precious mind. Wish him all the very best for his future endeavours.

  15. Maalik as the name suggests is the most respected and adored member of the senior citizens community of our batch. We have had our share of fun in everyday short moments when we meet mostly around the mess. He is a fellow UPite and does remind me of my state whenever I see him. Although he is from Kanpur, but he has all the tehzeeb of Lucknow in him :P :P

We have had a great time during our two months stay at MDI and that is when I got to know him so well. He has inspired me in a lot of ways and I love his spirit towards life and the attitude he has in dealing with people especially.

All the Best Sarkaar :) - Aapka Ghulam

  16. 'Sabka Maalik ek'

His presence commands respect, his calm and composed demeanor always reassuring, his attitude always helpful, always ready to find a solution, mature as well as fun filled at the same time. That's how one thinks of our dear 'Maalik'.
He's the one who named me 'nathu' (thankfully the name didn’t catch on :P), and was responsible for some other names too (muthu). He’s a chilled out person who defies B-School lifestyle in every way possible. This guy takes his hostel comm responsibilities pretty seriously and has been feeding us for the past two years.

It has been great knowing you Ashutosh!

  17. The patient and probably one of the most talented person of the batch. A dedicated and hard-worker who have loads of stories to tell about his experiences. He is one of the guys who have experienced a hell lot of things in life and enjoyed everything to the core. Although he never shares much but his stories are really interesting and the way of narrating them-funny. He can make anyone laugh by his sense of humor which is off-course unlike mine :D.

If someone wants to learn how to leave a life and be happy and make others happy just sit by him and observe him. He is among those few people in the batch for whom respect comes out naturally \m/.

Wish u great success ahead maalik..keep smiling always :)

  18. 'Maalik ko Shashtang pranam'
He is one of the coolest guy in the batch who truly follows the funda 'Jiyo aur Jeene do'. He manages his responsibilities very well with patience and perseverance. You can be rest assured of a task given to him will be duly completed. Has taken up his hostel comm work very sincerely.
Ashu is a very down-to-earth person. He is a person with golden heart and one can completely rely on him.
Sorry maalik for bugging you throughout the day. But truly speaking 'respect' is genuine.
We are hopefully, going to share a lot of moments together in the times to come. :)
    Best wishes for the future!

  19. Maalik - one of the guys whom everyone respects. He is a very genuine person and a hardworking Hostel Committee member. I have many laughs with maalik when we used to crack jokes. Mostly maalik would crack jokes on Rishi and we would laugh our hearts out. He is truly an epitome of patience and he would go to any limit to help you and ease you. Best wishes to maalik and wish you a wonderful career ahead.

    Pranaam!

  20. Ashutosh is not only my group mate but also colleague during the internship. During the internship i have seen the fun loving nature of this guy ( Yea in college i just know him as a serious and hardworking hostel committee member). Very hard working and talented guy who comes to rescue in the last minute when the group projects have to be submitted. Malik the entire batch calls him. He loves to go on long walks and listen to great music. Always down to earth and tonnnnnnnnnnnnns of patience.

All the best Ashu..:) Keep in touch

  21. The Ashutosh I knew until last summer was the sincere hostelcommer who did great work for the comfort of the batch and a dignified presence in class. But post Gurgaon, where I met the real Malik, I have noticed that the man from “a place called Kanpur” is often the silent source of laughter circles. I also know that he rides motorcycles with interesting people and does yoga with his office people. His sarcasm and status msges on gtalk have made me smile and more often that not, given me food for thought. All the best Ashutosh, may you always be a source of laughs and good sense!

  22. Ashu .. the first thing tat comes to my mind is modesty ! the way he is extremely humble is something everyone should learn.. it is a heartening sight to see him take so much pain to convince people who are much much younger to him for simple mess related issues.. i really dont think he has had a peaceful meal till date .. always there to solve issues regarding the mess.. a person who shows extreme responsibility in whatever he does .... he is the main reason why our mess remained a mess and never became a battlefield... i have huge respect for this guy and totally admire his humbleness... and yes no one can frget the way he takes a dig at people .. his mock interview in oral comm class was indeed memorable .. tat was and i hope will be the oly time when i saw the interviewers trembling before an interviewee .. such is the talent of this guy .. he can pick on anybody wit ease... his one liners in class have always kept the class lively .. a unique piece in this puzzle of 93 :)

  23. Ashutosh bhai urf Mallik aap ki to hum itni izzat karte hen kya bataye aapko. I have never met an amazing person like he is. The guy is super calm at all time and still he gets awesome results our of whatever work he does.

Nobody can hate you mallik even you future room mate will understand that. I think for Group D he was an important base who contributed immensely to all the work we did.

I think Group D was not possible without him. I remember going to him whenever I didn't feel nice. He is a great motivator. I know one thing for sure that this person will be highly succesful and will scale great heights.
    All the best Ashu!!!!

  24. Just figured out your name is Ashutosh and not Mallik :P

He is one of the members of the coolest committee on campus. No matter whatever you say to him whether good or bad you will get the same cool and calm response. Often the punching bag for the entire batch along with Salil and Jayant for all the mysterious experiments carried over the poor souls like us by Hostel Comm. during past couple of years.

Will always take every single opportunity of not listening to profs in the class and will never miss an opportunity to bunk the one even if it is DKA (daaku).

I like the way he tells stories (ahhh…create stories within seconds), esp. the one that he kept telling about Anil after returning from internship. A big critique of Kanpur but still likes his hometown. Have had multiple discussions with him on serious issues and have always looked upto him for his opinion. He is one person who believes in doing the work and leave accolades for others and never boasts of what he has done.

Wish you all the very best Ashutosh for future ahead…

  25. Ashu bhai is a perfect example of sincerity, dedication and commitment. His friendly nature and down to earth behavior has made a him everyone's favorite. A person who defies the norm of IIM of staying late and doing bakkar. He is also very responsible and has been troubled a lot of time by us for some Hoss Comm activities.

Maalik, you truly are a role model for many including me.

    ReplyDelete
  26. My Hostel life would never be complete without the mention of Ashutosh - he was responsible for us getting good food always :) The best thing that happened to Hostel Comm was to get Ashutosh and Salil in it - real assets they were :)

A down-to-earth personality and a responsible person - hardly loses his composure and you will hardly notice him in class as he's very silent - doesn't believe in useless DPs :)

Wish you have a great life ahead and hope to see you around :)

  27. "Maalik" is probably one and only person in the whole batch who is respected by all including the student community and even few faculty members. He is the only one in the batch who is rarely addressed by his real birth name. He is cool, dynamic, logical, sensible, pragmatic, caring, bold and daring, efficient, creative, mature, envisioning, leading..... There is a never ending list of his qualities. Here Let me highlight only few of his unique features:

    1. A cool but commanding personality: My first opinion about him is his extreme cool nature, never compromising his percious time for low value-adding activities. He is probably the one who sleeps for maximum hours than any other person in the campus (except for exam times). At the same time he has a charisma of making others attentive or captivate to his speech/conversation using his "nasheeli aankhen" (intoxicating eyes), so that even his strongest enemy would fall prey to him. His thoughts and maturity are respected by all that made him our Maalik or savior.

    2. A dedicated but smart worker: I have never noticed him defying any of his responsibilities or commitments and he strives to fulfill all the commitments with extreme dedication (he also will not give any false promises though). But sometimes he follows his typical Kanpuria style "mattiya do" (finish it off soon.. do not think/indulge too much) approach in work, which was often a source of disagreement between us (however I admire him for his administrative and delegation skills in team works).

    3. Knowledgeable and Dynamic personality: I should agree that he has very less likeliness for books especially of academic interest. But his gyaan of general awareness and business understanding can surpass all books. His judgements and decisions are often driven by his comman sense, logic and intuitions and hardly influenced by bookish knowledge. He is very flexible in handling things and is a real asset to any team which he is a part of.

    4. A creative and innovative mind: He has been expert in giving "out of the box" new ideas for bplan competitions. But to his misfortune, most of ideas were either tried and discarded earlier or in use by others. He gets very disheartened when I use to tell him that his idea is aleady in implementation showing a wierd expression implying "Who the hell has copied my thoughts ??" :). Alas, he could been alive in pre-Technology era. In that case, he would have been among us as a great visionary like Steve Jobs or Bill Gates (sorry maalik, this is true. Though anachronism crossed the way of your fate). He has strong enterpreneurship skills with a strong ability to stand by his foot whether it is independent thinking, ability to fight single-handedly with others. He has got a divine talent of creating stories or citing real incidents based on situations and his unique style of narration during his strolls with others (though I doubt the genuineness and authenticity of many of his stories :P)

    5. A humble and down-to-earth character: As a Hostel committe member, there would be none in the batch (even Junior and Senior batches or even other Hostel Committe members too) who has not pestered him at least once for mess food quality or for absence of TT balls in recreation room or for faulty treadmill or any damn reasons (even I have tortured him a lot in the first year for alloting me a singe room and for increasing the frequency of non-veg food items, I feel sorry for all that now). Still, he listens patiently and politely give replies to all without getting angry with anyone. He has a healthy relationship with everyone in the campus.

Maalik has been a great support and source of energy for me for past two years. He always tried to motivate me in times of distress and I use to consult him for all major matters.

I wish all best to everyone's favourite maalik :) :)

  28. Ashutosh or Maalik as we love to call him is a fellow UPite. We also share the common passion of drinking tea. He always seem to be in and around the Mess - taking good care of all his responsibilities as well as entertaining the crowd. Having food with him around is never boring. I do not know a person with a better sense of humor.

He is a very helpful individual. I recall that how inspite of danger of getting caught, he mailed to me the project file of MS Project. And we did get caught. I am extremely sorry about that incident even now.

He possesses a very down to earth humble nature, which primarily is responsible for the fact that not many know about his extraordinary exploits in B-plan competitions, which started in the first year itself.

I wish you all the best for your future endeavors and hope that you will continue to be the person you are - always entertaining, always so humble and always so helping.

  30. The silent thinker who manages to think through things completely before talking it out.. He will always manage to bring a newer perspective to issues.. this was one man who completely changed the way we ate by overhauling the mess our mess was in… A fellow ops club member, his sincerity and dedication is always on display.. All the very best!!

  31. Ashutosh is a person who can cheer up anyone.. He may not be cracking a joke but still the way he talks and his expressions do surely animate the milieu he is in. A very very congenial person, a very approachable and very jolly personality.. Mere his presence can light up even a gloomy soul..

This guy is so talented and gifted and the best part of him is that, he would never acknowledge it, rather satirize himself only...The first consultant (along with Anil) of our batch and of course he is everyone’s ‘Maalik’ ;)

I am sure, a happy and successful future is awaiting you!!

  32. Malik and I share a deep connection with the city of Kanpur...and he used to tease me saying that I have not been able to pick any trait particular to kanpuriyas....At IIMS, Malik is one of the most respectable and chilled out guys of the batch...He always has some or other witty comments and its great talking or listening to him....a very talented guy, I am sure he will make Kanpur and IIMS very proud of him one day...
Wish you a great life ahead, Malik...:)

  33. I won't call him Maalik like others, to me he is far more estimable like a very, very close relative. His traits most specially his caring nature earned him this distinguished title. He makes sure that everyone takes food on time and is in the best of his/her health which further strengthens my belief. A good boxer (thats what everyone knows) with a great brain and a witty nature. A master of endurance (remains calm even after having the 3 brightest stars as his soulmates)and a source of inspiration for many. He is always ready to help others even if he looses something coz of it.. I truly respect you for what you are.... u r really a gem. wish you good luck in you future endeavour. Stay in touch..:)

  34. The most respected Malik!!! A very dedicated hostel committee member who tries to fulfil everyone’s demands (God knows how much I would have pestered him regarding the mess food and the heaters/blowers) He has solved every issue patiently… His experience, simplicity and down-to-earth nature earn all the respect! But behind this responsible character, lies an evil and fun-loving person!! :P Very good at taking someone’s case and very efficient at cracking his jokes. His wit has entertained us throughout our stay at Gurgaon… Without his leg-pulling sessions targeted at me, it would have been difficult for people to wait through to the end of my meal ;) Extra creative at making up things and can easily fool anyone with a straight face while doing that! Can never forget that consulting project for ‘Bakri selling online’ story of yours which you made all of us believe… He’s very cool-headed and never really worries about anything! :)

Maybe you are the person who hates studying the most; but you have made this College a better place for all of us Malik! Wish you all the happiness and success in future! :)
