Shubhajit aka Dada - Give him his chair, a table with a laptop on it which has class movies and an ash tray.... This is his world. And he is master of his world.
Very knowledgeable, confident and lovely human being whom you would find always smiling. Always there for friends. Argue about cricket...and he is in. Argue about movies..and you are out.
Nice to have found a friend like you dada. "aye riksha...." :)
Subhajit has been my neighbour for the past two years here at IIMS and one thing I can say for sure that I never had any dearth of movies coz of him.But his life isn't just confined to movies. He can beat you in any debate right from physics to philosophy. A very good batsman and a TT player too...
In short, Dada is a complete all-rounder who knows what he is doing but most importantly he is a great company!
We call this man as 'Dada' - the eternal bong bro of our PGP-10. Dada is one of the most practical person you would like to interact with and pepper this with the Navy Cuts he offers during those conversations. He is one of the most well-read person of our batch and he actually fills the gap of a bibliophile to be found in any MBA batch. His passion is movies - actually a connoisseur of World Movies and how can someone miss his better half- his blog - 'Cinemascope'. As a person, I found him argumentative but he can lead the arguments with all his might and defying everyone's opinions with logic. He can give you a plethora of information on any topic you want to talk. Dada is a person who never says no to some help you need from him.
As a student, you would find Dada as a very dedicated and disciplined guy covering whole lot of the pre-class readings and giving his best in the CP we all fight for. Ask him to go our for a wholesome lunch, and you are rest assured to hear a 'Sure!! Why Not'. A big foodie and a addict of Paneer Butter Masala (he just can't stay without it). Ask him for a movie and you are rest assured, he gives you 100s of them. Ask him for a talk over a smoke and you bet to have animated and heated discussions and at the end the outcome getting a world's perspective on everything.
A very knowledgeable person who himself proclaims himself to be a bit of a 'loner' but you would never find that when you start talking with him. I know his sincerity and dedication would show him many highs(without the booze) in his career and I wish him all the best for his future. I feel very fortunate to have Dada as one of my special friends.
Through the gap in his slightly open door you will always find him relaxing in his chair, cigarette in one hand, watching some movie or the other. Sometimes the cigarette gets replaced by a glass of rum, but the posture remains the same. This would be the image of dada which I would always carry in my mind. Such is the amazing range of movies he has watched and appreciated that you will find in his hard disk, movies in languages like Polish, Iranian, Turkish, Czech, Russian, Korean, Japanese (this would be just half the list but I have run out of languages that I remember :D)...
Loves eating and keeps reminding us that we should try different varieties of foods... but strangely his orders in shillong never seem to go beyond PBM and a couple of butter naans.
A huge fan of exploring different things in life and never want's to limit himself to one field. Diversity of knowledge is the key for him. He is the one guy who can talk on any topic you want... and he would always have an opinion.
A great guy and one who's company I thoroughly enjoyed in the past two years :)
Shubhajit Lahiri or "Dada"- After knowing him for 2 years- can honestly say- for me, He will always be "the Bong"... I mean- all the illusions or preconceived notions I had about Bengali- They love their Food, they are literary people, know their Music and Movies, Have certain style of Speaking- all holds true in case of him... With one of the Few neighbour who was just opposite me for 2 years- I have to got to know him quite well- and consider him one of the closest friend in the College.. The Guy is a total Foodie- and not just about loving his food- even trying out different options and having an opinion on them.. Be it Sports of Football, Tennis or Cricket- Be it movies- Indian, Hollywood or Off-Beat movies of other countries or be it his Literary Love- he has strong opinions on all the topics- and is great fun when discussing.. You need to get all your facts straight- coz he is very difficult to convince.. :D He is someone you just listen to when he talks- and not because of his age (though the age has been a running joke between us ;) ), but because its enjoying and often fun!!
With his unique view on all aspects, he has been one of the people I have huge respect for and loved the time spent with him- from the Kaziranga trips or the treats and outings- to the Sutta Breaks and just talking about random stuff...
A Great Friend to know and spend your 2 years with... Hope to remain in Touch...
A great cinephile, Subhajit introduced me to the world cinema. A great appreciator of good cinema and books, he is an equally vocal critic of poor films. A very frank person - he would never think twice before making his opinions known to all. How can one forget the way he blasted a certain so called "King" of actors in the middle of the IMC class :). Over and above movies, he has a treasure of good music. It was he who introduced me to Dylan's music. All in all a true lover of art (I ran out of the philias :) with cinephile, audiophile, bibliophile...)
Shubhajit’s love for books, movies and music is known to all on IIM Shillong campus and beyond. I have always admired him for his passion for his blog, and his writing skills are par excellence. I was a fan of his writing (and command over the English language) from the time he read us his account of the typhoid week (it was an assignment for WBC), and his conversations and writings are peppered with humour, sarcasm and cynicism. A very knowledgeable guy, it would be wrong to not acknowledge his witty contributions to classroom discussions. Helpful, humble and a true bong;'; Shubhajit will surely achieve great success in life! All the very best to you
Well this bangali babu epitomizes all bengalis. The passion for movies, books, music, chicken, smoke, sleep and not to forget the evening nap. an extremely sound writer, his blogs on movie reviews is simply awesome!! having made IIM S proud on many occasions, we are lucky to have you in our batch. a no nonsense guy, who would start with bengali expletives one he gets angry at someone/something. It's been a pleasure knowing you dada. Keep rocking as always!!!
Dada-one of the most attentive student. Every time that I have crossed his room in these 2 years have always seen him sitting on his chair and watching movies endlessly with a cigg in hand. Try as much u can but u will always fall short in explaining how deeply he is into movies. One of the few who will talk about as much topics as possible with a proper reasoning and logic attached to what he says. All the best for your future.
DADA, probably one of the well-read guys of our batch. He is a voracious reader and he can speak on any topic. My group mate too. He starts doing assignments very early and also very methodical in his approach. A great connoisseur of food. DADA and Paneer-butter-masala has some special connection, that I have to find out when we both will be working in the same company.. :P:P
I love teasing him, i bet you try to negate his views u'll see the RED FACED Dada. I still remember when I said Rajnikant is a very good actor that's why people like him and DADA scolded me so badly that every now and den when I see Rajnikant I see DADA's face next to him.
Of course I can never forget the hospitality at DADA's place during my stay in Kolkata few days back.
All the best dude.. and I think he should be a professor much like Sanjoy Mukherjee sir..:)
Ooyi saala!! Dada ke baare me kya kehna. I still don't know what is he doing here in IIM Shillong when he could have been well into Hollywood. An ardent movie lovers with tastes ranging and spanning across Genres. Why he goes and apends money on bollywood flicks when he continuously keeps cursing the movie, the acting , the actors and actress :P. A very intelligent guy with hell lot of knowledge. Who says cigarettes kills a person? we have seen Dada killing and burning so many cigarettes everyday :D. Wishing u a great success ahead Dada. Didi aasle aamar ke bolben kintu :D. Keep Smiling Always :)
The Bengali babu moshay of PGP10.A rich source of movies and a literary genius.Broach any topic and dada would always have a opinion which will not match with any of us.An amazing speaker who can sometimes make you nervous with his amazingly strong logic and well built arguments. A bigtym foodie who likes to try out all kinds of new dishes. His love for hollywood and non mainstream cinema is praiseworthy. His hatred for some popular bollywood icons like SRK and Salman is quite conspicuous as well.
Dada we will always remember your typical comments and mannerisms and your "NON POPULIST" views on issues :P
Needless to say that, with ur kind of personality and ability success is unstoppable.
The Cinephile of our batch, Shubhajit has achieved unparalleled fame as a movie reviewer in the capsule style. I have been a huge fan of his reviews, and admire him a lot for managing to give so much time for his passion even through a hectic MBA. He has an unmatched love for food and has probably tried out all sorts of meat on offer wherever he’s visited. He relishes tandoori chicken and the rossogolla with equal delight and love the Paneer Butter Masala. An amazing person to talk, debate, discuss and argue about things ranging from Pete Sampras’s dominance, to Ravindra Jadeja’s pathetic performance, to socialism, to cinema, to music and what not. I’ve always enjoyed conversing with him especially because of how logical and articulate his speaking is. Dada loves his alcohol and Navy Cut, and his vocabulary is one of the most amazing I’ve ever come across. He is a voracious reader too and loves the classics. I am sure his love for writing will soon culminate with him authoring a book, or a movie review compilation. There’s a lot of success in the offing for you.
Dada lives in a palatial mansion. He writes a world famous blog. But, when you meet him, you don’t sense these. The impression we get is that he is intelligent, well read and argumentative and the impression is right.
Dada has been one of the most committed people I’ve ever met. One can find him watching movies at almost any time of the free day with the intention to review them. This is what keeps his passion, his blog growing and healthy. He has strong opinions on things and its fun to see how stay as if frozen in time. As someone who benefited from his orders of ‘PBM’, I would urge him to keep them that way.
Dada is talented and hardworking, so should naturally do well in his normal career or his dream career. I just wish for him that he keeps the air in his room cleaner.
Dada is extremely well read, a fan of movies rather masterpieces (will curse Directors who churn out crappy work), has an in-depth understanding of whatever goes in behind creating a movie. His blog Cinemascope< http://cliched-monologues.blogspot.in/> has been rated as the Top movie review blog. Shubhajit is a person whose thought process is well structured, his command over language is just unparalleled in the entire batch and he certainly has an opinion on topics and loves to indulge in health discussions on such topics. (I remember him having discussion with Paul at length during internship). A connoisseur of good food and booze, he like many other Bengalis has a sweet tooth. He plays great TT and has been Khatron Ke Khiladi’s icon player and coach in last Kopda season. A great person to have as a friend, He has been a friend, philosopher and guide (to an extent). Wish you achieve great heights in your professional life ! :)
Dada is a complete movie freak - he manages to see a lot of movies and can review them as well irrespective of how good or bad the movie is :D He's a great fan of Bengali movies and even made us watch one in the audi very recently :P
You can talk to Dada about almost anything - sports, politics, philosophy and what not. He's amazingly well-read and is a nice person to talk to :)
Hope you have a great life ahead and hope to see you around :)
I have been Shubhajit's neighbour for the past 2 years and it has been a pleasure to have such a person next to your room whom is so much so alike Michelangelo. The way Michelangelo was a great master in several distinct disciplines, same goes with Shubhajit. He is a great connoisseur of food, a real movie buff apart from being a really brilliant person with an amazing sense of humour and yes, a vast source of General Knowledge. All through these 2 years, I always found him more than willing to offer everyone a helping hand in any situation. The best thing about Shubhajit is that he knows how to enjoy the Life and never let is dominate over his senses. Most of the time, we all wing-mates have witnessed him, stone sculpted in same position in his chair, with a cigarette in his left hand and a glass in other hand. This guy is really generous and empathizes with everyone and has never shied away even during the hardest exam from helping others with their lessons. Whenever, he would get some free time, he would definitely leave any chance of hinging on to his laptop and watching some classic. His criticism about several movies has already made famous in the International Movie Circuit and none other Warner Brother recognized him for his valuable contribution to Cinema. I also appreciate the way he has beared with my nuisance for these 2 years. Every morning I would wake early and play music (definitely too poor for his taste) and continue to do so for the whole day long. But, Shubhajit has beared it all with patience and never objected to it. He would always bear with my lethal jokes which are at times centred on him and has never cribbed. A real sportsman spirit and full of life, Dada I hope that you stay next door to me, for the coming years too. It’s always a pleasure to have such wonderful people as you. Best of Luck for all your future endeavours!!
Dada – as we call him, is the person of PGP10 known for all the non-MBA stuff. When talking about him, people hardly remember assignments or presentations. He is most well-read person of our batch. His love for cinema is something that one has to witness to understand. Dada, our conversation with that Chicago guy, Nikhil is something I ll remember for a long time; how I was watching you both discuss every known name in world cinema was amazing. I was clueless for the most part. He is a very sincere guy, who makes use of his time very well. A lot of time, you can see him penning down his movie reviews in boring lectures, a good use of time one would think :) Debating with him can be fun. He would bring in very different perspectives, but, still listen to all the opposite views being brought on to the table and tackle them patiently. His writing skill is something I admire the most; his language is impeccable and vocabulary excellent. Keep your passions alive, as you have always been able to, Dada! Wish you best of luck! Cheers :)
