I owe a significant percentage of my marks to this genius. He could have been at NASA or some F1 team had he not joined IIMS. But I am happy at their loss coz I found a steel friend !! :) and off late he has started loving saalsa...
Joy is undoubtedly one of the most brilliant guys in our batch. He has a razor-sharp mind, has no dearth of intellect, and has enough sincerity and commitment towards whatever he does. These facets have ensured that he became the go-to guy for most in our batch. And yes, lest I forget, he eats, sleeps and drinks Ops - and that's a fact.
But then, he also loves living life to the fullest. He loves swallowing his pegs, watching good cinema, and listening to rock music. In fact, he's one the few people in our batch with whom I can share my love for rock music and its numerous variants. He loves has great sense of humour, and loves having a good laugh from time to time. If only he could speak Bangla with a lesser accent, he would have been the quintessential Bengali :)
Heard a lot about the Ops guru before coming to Shillong from one of my Engg. Friend. A sincere, intelligent, hard working person always ready to share knowledge and help you out. Wish you all the best in life Joy
Some quick words for him would be- 1. Operations 2. Machines 3. Daaru 4. Jamshedpur 5. English movies 6. Rock music 7. Afternoon nap 8. TATA 9. Bong 10.Chicken. I think these 10 words sum up his entire life. He cannot think of anything beyond machines. All the processes involve operations. ;) Having dinner outside is a waste if it aint chicken. Hindi movies are sheer crappy according to him with no story line whatsoever. (But he knows the names of all). Name any english movie he has'nt watched and you win. Music aint worth listening till it bangs your head. Cant compromise on afternoon naps ever. From Jamshedpur, work ex in Jamshedpur, interns in Jamshedpur and finally placed in Jamshedpur. Closely related to TATA. Sure next in line after Cyrus Mistry. Has this typical Bong accent which you cant help but imitate. Week CANNOT end without booze. Apart from this, he'll help you out always. Be it teaching QT or ops or looking for placement material. All the best! No need to say you will do well wherever you go! :)
Joy Bartha ! Now that's an easier way to address him. He has always been a wonderful person, be it any subject or any extra-curricular activity. He has a special affection towards Operations Mgmt but it would be belittling this wonderful person to say that he has excelled only in Ops. He seems to have mastered any damn subject that was ever there in the PGP course handbook ( though HR is still a doubtful case). He is one of the best customer for the hostel mess and hardly complains about the food or menu and in case it is chicken then he is all by himself and is least bothered which variety or what dish has actually been prepared. He is a Mech engineer at heart and donning this hat of an MBA grad does not seem to take away the sheen of being an excellent Mech Engineer. TATA Steel is all set to roll red carpet in honour of welcoming this genius who will very soon make Jamshedpur known all over the world.
The silent Bong who loves his food as much as Operations.. a true mechanical engineer.. This guy’s passion for operations management has been one of the sole reasons for the various initiatives of the Ops club.. A committed and dedicated guy who excels in all that he does.. he makes sure he lives his life to the fullest.. The TATA guy… All the very best Joy :) Have an awesome life :)
I still remember the first day when I met him. He was on the same flight in which I was travelling to Guwahati. I never imagined that this guy which seemed like a proper bong with heavy voice and simple looks will become one my best friends at IIM Shillong.
He is one of the most chilled out person of the batch. With his logical and practical outlook he demands high regards in the batch. If Joy speaks, people will listen as he only speaks when it makes sense else he won’t utter a word. He enjoys his siesta, listening to hard rock songs and has a great taste of movies and sitcoms. But above all he is passionate about machines, gears, nuts and bolts and he can still give any btech mechanical guy run for their money as far as mechanical concepts are concerned.
He generally doesn’t speak much or neither expresses his feelings/care for people but when the time comes he will be there to help you out in whatever way he can. I think the whole of Group F will remember him as he always was our last resort in assignments, submissions or anything academic. I personally will remember him as someone whom I can rely on and can trust without a second doubt. Let it be sharing my burden of assignments, to helping me out in studies to just randomly distressing from my placecomm burden and tension, he was there to support me and guide me in ways he can.

Cool, intelligent, ardent fan of Rock music and Hollywood movies, his skills of guessing the right Bollywood movie during a Dumb C game might make your jaws drop ( given the fact that he watches only a few Bollywood flicks :P), Ops Champ, connoisseur of good food and daaru, Ops Club member who has been the force behind many a great initiatives of the Ops Club. Though he is known as Steel Putra he would blush at Sakshi’s remarks about him having a seductive voice :P Always brings varied points to the table during discussions. A crazy fan of Cars, movies and rock music - Joy is one of those person who is silent most of the times but you can know that a hell lot things he can visualize and think of in a moment. My fellow group-F mate who never hesitated in taking up responsibilities for the group and the group mates too :D. He always had a very different way of approaching to problems and finding out solutions. It was fun working with you for these 2 years dude. Wish u a successful career ahead mate. Joy for me is one of the most sincere and hardworking guys in our batch. I have hardly seen him bunking the classes. He is the Ops guru of the batch, can even give professors run for their money. He is one connoisseur of Rock music, a big fan of rock music and doesn’t like to listen Hindi songs (except few from The Dewarists :P) He doesn’t watch Hindi movies but knows the names of all Bollywood movies (even sidey ones :P)And maniac for cars and motorsports. He knows literally everything about the cars.
He has few things in his dictionary which he can’t compromise on, come what may; such as afternoon nap, morning breakfast; it isn’t worth eating out if no chicken.He has been so connected with TATA like no one has ( I am dead sure he will lead TATA one day ). He doesn't lose out on his quota of alcohol every weekend. But all in all, he is one of the most chilled out person, who doesn’t care much about what’s happening around him. He will “play everything by his ears” and the outer world doesn’t bother him much.
He is probably the only guy in the entire batch who loves attending classes at 9 in the morning when everyone else wants to sleep. He has a crazy passion for all things “Operations” and is one of the few here who has been extremely focussed about what his career options are, right from Day 1. He has this extraordinary zeal about whatever he does and never compromises on the output of an assignment he’s taken up. I’ve been lucky enough to work with him on a few occasions and he’s bailed me out by working for my share of the assignments too. He is a voracious reader as well as an avid movie & Tv series watcher and we’ve discussed a lot about various tv shows.

Synonyms for Joy are delight, bliss, ecstasy, gratification and this guy surely gives justice to all of these by his indulgences across all domains - be it "hard juices", scholastic activities, blabbering amongst others. Joy is the most hard working and sincere guy of our batch. If you are in search of any assignment U need to ctrl+C Ctrl+V, he is first person to look for. He has an excellent quantitative aptitude and love for numbers; knows more finance than many finance people though is a core Ops-guy.
A complete mechanical engineer to the soul; his knowledge and passion about Cars, engineering makes me feel - 'Why didn't I study these concepts during my Mech Engineering?' :P. A person who loves the smell and feel of a production plant.
A person who has a natural morning alarm, gets up before 9AM whatever may come. The person who hardly any of the classes / presentations / sessions. He is a person who is very confident about himself; very determined and focussed too. A person who takes the responsibilities very sincerely (though cannot expect him to take initiatives :P). Generally perceived as 'a person of substance'. Hopefully TATA group gets lucky by making him lead the conglomerate. :)
Loves to watch movies (not bollywood) and sitcom & reads a lot. Poor Joy had to bear many hindi movies because of us.

Kuchh bolne ko chhora hi nahi :P But I am sure you do have a different layer to you than all that we know about you :) Passion in every work and totally helpful nature are few that I know of. Group F is how I got to know this bloke! A technically gifted person, sublime with numbers and highly efficient in excel, he is THE operations guy in the batch. This guy can work for long hours at a stretch with minimal sleep and simultaneously attend most classes with rapt attention! I remember our CS matchups where he continuously used to challenge me and despite using all kinds of cheats and auto-aim and what not, would end up losing! :D (glad there is no one to verify that :D) Most of all I remember all our last minute hysterical group submissions, the never ending debate of inventory in capstone simulations and his ‘don’t give a damn about teachers’ attitude! And of course his love for rock music and movies is widespread! Stay in touch and keep well Joy! :)
