SAUMITRA AMBEGAOKAR

  1. Saumitra is known as Warren Buffet of our batch, and not for no reason. He loves the world of business, in general, and the world of finance, in particular. In fact, I'd go so far as to state that he is one of the 2 or 3 best Fin guys in our batch. There are two clear reasons for that - he's absolutely passionate about this domain, and he loves continually building upon the considerable knowledge that he already possesses about it.

But its not just finance that he delves his time & energy into. He has a pretty good general knowledge - from current affairs & politics to history, he loves the game of cricket (in fact he's quite adept in playing the game too), he possesses one of the best TT services among all our batchmates, he loves watching movies & reading, so on and so forth. In short, he's pretty much an all-rounder.

Okay, he loses his cool from time to time (another nick-name of his is 'Jwala'), but when he's in his senses he's a fine guy to know.

  2. If you have nothing good to say, don’t say it, they say. But, after two years of MBA, I thought I am in a good position make something up and put it up here. Born under the astrological sign Sagittarius, Saumitra is ruled by the planet Jupiter. This makes him ethical, soft spoken, intelligent, aggressive and behave like someone affected with OCD, especially when it comes to following stocks or watching movies.

He is likely to have interests in writing prose and poetry and harbour radical thoughts on government and society. Infact, one should not be surprised if Saumitra had already written some prose and poetry. Sagittarians are usually good with numbers and are likely to be finance lovers in MBA. There are no exceptions to this rule.

His friends are unlikely to remember or mention all the positive qualities that he has when they talk about him in public, but they expect him to remember that they will remain good friends and value him much more than what they can express in words.

  3. Saumitra has been my neighbour for the past one year and it was like having an investopedia the next door. He has passion towards Finance and can come out successful in any Fin related challenge. This guy just loves to debate and debate... If you want to know cricket statistics, he is the best person for it. Apart from this, Saumitra is a foodie who loves to eat and eat Chicken.

This guy is an breathtaking fast bowler and awesome TT player (No doubt he looks after Sports section in Hostel Comm :)). He likes to watch movies of various genres, generations and can sit glued to him comp for hours watching them in his past time.

It was really great to have him as a friend in past two years and wish to keep in touch with him in the future....

  4. The one thing which would probably define Saumitra for me would be his skeptical mind. He would never take anything at its face value and would have his own view of it. He definitely makes a great use of this ability when it comes to his favorite passtime... stockmarkets.

Saumitra is one person in our batch who is really passionate about his subject ie. finance. If you want to have a crash course in stocks, just listen to him share his opinions on any company. You are bound to get a reasonable grip of the subject :) :)

He also likes to play a lot... be it TT or cricket he is sure to put his heart into the game and play as if there is no tomorrow. Also watches a lot of movies (once watched 5 back to back movies in a day).

Last but the not the least loves his state Gujarat... Trust him to insert "in ahmedabad.... " or "in baroda.... " at the slightest opportunity in a conversation.

And how can I forget his temper... sure created many fun moments in the past two years :) :)

    Do keep in touch....

  5. I would remember Saumitra as a person with an entrepreneurial bent of mind...he is very good with stocks..his pseudo name in footsteps "Warren Buffet" was no misnomer...if there is one person in the batch on whom going long is a no-brainer, then it would be him...extremely hard working and sincere, this guy is surely destined to achieve great things in life....

All the very best to you and hope to hear your name one day in the same league as Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, Peter Lynch, etc..:)

  9. Saumitra is a very dear friend to everyone in our batch. He is silent, keeps himself reserve but he is a very intelligent person when you interact with him. Saumitra is known for his short-temper but he has tried to improve upon this in these two years. His passion is Finance and he knows in and out of this field. He is so hardworking that he can sit for hours and try to solve cases, read all the pre-class materials and finish all assignments within deadlines. He is a very sincere student and I have been fortunate to have sat beside him in classes and I have seen his notes which are awesome. Every word uttered by a faculty would be in his note. I used to make fun of Saumitra and he used to take everything in a truly right spirit. I was fortunate to be in Sales group and we had so much fun during the Role Plays and we used to fight on many ideas and would argue on small things. Those days made us become very good friends. He has been a fellow member for many non-veg lunches and long walks from Laimu/PB to campus.

I wish S(a)umitra all the best for his future and hope he rocks throughout his life with his brown moustache [:;].

  12. "100 friends" that's wht his name means! This wild fire is a Fin Wizard - but few have appreciated the talent he is blessed with. A modest, shy person who is down to earth, always! A person who is really simple to annoy but very helpful when you are in trouble.
    Majjaani life jeena!
    All the best!

  13. Having been Saumitra’ s classmate during engineering days I heaved a sigh of relief when I found out that he too would join IIM S. His modesty, intelligence, wisdom are some skills among many others like his investing acumen, knowledge about things happening around the world, excellent TT skills which make him a great person to be friend with. A dedicated HostelCommer he can be seen providing TT racquets and badminton shuttle on demand :) Saumitra is sure to be the next Warren Buffet and for this he does not need luck. :) Still accept good wishes from my end!

  14. Saumitra- One of my most dearest friends...I think he is a guru for me. Our friendship dates back to first sem when me and madahv had hours of discussions in Saumitra's room.

Saumitra has knowledge about most of the things and is one of the most modest guy of our batch. I have sheer respect for his talent as well as tremendous willingness to succeed. I believe nobody else knows more about stocks and probably I would buy stocks he recommends.

Apart from this he is a very cool and calm guy who just doesn't open his books but scores very well in exams.I shared a lot of journeys with him and he was always a great company.

Talking to him one can perceive that a future leader is in the making.
Saumitra you are an awesome person and kindly continue being yourself coz I know you will go places!!!

  15. My fellow C wingie, Saumitra was the silent unassuming guy. An extremely hard working and dedicated guy, I ve never seen him lose his cool. His knowledge belies his attitude. He has an amazing knowledge about various things like the stock market, sports etc yet he has his head firm on his shoulders and never shows attitude. I was lucky to be a part of his group in Nalini’s course “Investment banking” and I learnt a lot from him. The dedication he puts in any work is one thing which I would love emulating. He is an ideal choice for Hos Comm who ensures that everyone is comfortable in their rooms . It was great knowing you and success is just a step away. U ll do great in whatever u choose in ur life. Cheers for life :)

  16. Saumitra, thinking about him the only few things that come to my mind are MATLAB and Finance..He is my "classroom neighbour" and also the one on whom I relied alot for my proxies:P An intelligent, down to earth fellow who listens to profs very carefully:P I still remember our Finance classes where we tried every possible way to solve cases and certainly that was a chance to learn from him. Saumitra!! no matter IIM Shillong hasn't recognized your potential, the outside world will surely do and once it does you will leave behind everyone by miles..just stay focused and have faith on God..wish u a very best of luck. Do keep in touch..:)
